number 1, 1/27th

i'm just back from the gym...

i was waiting for the applause. oh well. this was my first time to my $69 per month gym in...oh, a couple months. fortunately i was able to use one of the "members only" parking spaces when i went to a movie last weekend so at least my monthly draft was worth something.

anyway, i did my first couch to 5k training tonight!

i used the downloaded podcast for week one, which i will continue to use for the other 2 times i go this week- every other day. it's intervals and the truth is i was surprised i was able to do it considering how long it's been since i worked out. it felt long. i think more because i was bored than tired really...it's so mundane! i truly don't know how runners don't go crazy.

now the key is staying with it. the 1/27th in the title is assuming that i do the 9 week program- 1 out of 27 workouts done. truth is it may be even less than that since i'm considering doing the week 1 workout for two weeks to give my body more time to adjust. i have picked a race on 1.16.10 that i think is a reasonable goal.

on a side note, there's an ironic twist to my "diversion" that so engulfed me for the last two weeks. okay, i'll say it- it was the twilight saga of books. don't laugh. i cannot explain it, but i was and still am pretty obsessed with this series and and feel completely embarrassed for being taken in by something so pedestrian. there are some truly good things that came out of it though:
1. it got me reading again. in fact, four books within 10 days.
2. it made me watch less tv- even now that i'm done. i find myself annoyed with the tv (which is usually a constant on in my house) as nothing is as interesting as the story i have recently devoured.
3. it has strangely motivated me. i've been thinking that i have a ridiculous crush on a fictional character, but actually, maybe it's more envy of the narrator of the book for finding such a rare thing. it makes me want to find it too and to find that i think i need to feel more complete myself...which is what this list is all about!

oh, and the ironic twist! my gym shares a lobby with the movie theater and guess who greeted me as i walked in the door tonight? none other than my fictional crush. turns out he's waiting there for me to come see him on november 19 at the midnight showing of new moon.

  1. Aww! Now THAT's motivation for going to the gym! :p

Just imagine you're running towards Edward and you'll get that endorphin rush to push you through!
